Back to “basic”.

Finally, for so many reasons I decided to go back to where I used to be. I have been heavily in Linux environment when I worked for Jaron Direct developing online systems in Java platform to be deployed in Sun machines runing Solaris OS. One of my project in collaboration with Fantomaster was written in Perl and has been one of the world’s most successful black-hat SEO method. It was a very old age when we talk about CGI (mostly written in Perl) instead of PHP.
When I joined Exotiq, things has just changed. So many technical and business reasons forced me to employ Windows stream in my department. Windows servers, .NET applications, and MS SQL Server were then became the keywords I put when I search the net. Running my role, I have nothing against both open source and Microsoft. Frankly speaking, Microsoft stuffs are not that bad at all, not as bad as most of open source fanatics accuse. In fact, combined with their technical support and quality assurance, I believe that it is till the most reliable option for mainstream business users.
However, I have decided to go back to Linux for two reasons. Firstly is the most obvious one, money. Living the GPL worlds is free, the only investment required is brain. Well, not really. Money too, but in less amount than Microsoft way. The easiest indicator is price for hosting server running Linux compared to Windows. Secondly is literally something taken from the dictionary. Stability is somehow standing at the opposite of innovation. It is something like when you consider investment. Low risk – low gain against high risk – high gain.
I have even started investment for this. A new PowerEdge server running Fedora is connected to the net from a state of the art data-center in Europe. A local machine is ready to be pimped for Linux installation. Even a PHP programmer has just hired.
