It is quite a pity that there is no qualified local photography magazine here, at least so far I know. The only one I know, which is affiliated to famous international chain of computer magazine, is too general and casual. Covering a wide range area from cell-phone camera to camcorder. We can actually order or even subscribe, but the shipping and handling costs a lot more than the price of the magazine itself, even for the cheapest options which let you get the magazine arrive about a month after its issued. It doesn’t really makes any sense to me.
The other option which I normally reluctantly do is to go to Periplus. They have some imported photography magazine. Trouble is that Periplus has very limited options and priced amazingly expensive. More or less like buying them at Amazon including shipping cost. The only slight benefit is that we do not have to wait for 3-4 weeks on shipment.
Fortunately I got a guy in a photography forum who supplies imported photography magazine. Whilst options are rather limited, he seems to know well enough about photography and the magazine content. So whilst the options are rather limited, they are quite good ones. Whilst he sells older issues - I guess out of unsold stock - he has latest editions as well, but the best thing of all is the price. The latest editions are priced at about the same as local lifestyle magazines, cheaper than the official price tag. All are in mint condition, definitely brand new. The magazines and accompanying CDs are all still sealed in the publisher plastic pack.
I have just gave him a try, and my order has just arrived yesterday.
Photoshop Creative UK #32 (photoshopcreative.co.uk)
Outdoor Photographer March 2008 (outdoorphotographer.com)
Digital Photographer UK $66 (dphotographer.co.uk)
Digital Photo Pro Jan/Feb 2008 (digitalphotopro.com)
Except of the last one, which I chose because of the topic covered, all are the latest issues.
Bye bye local magazine.
